Welcome to the fight

Birthdays are a special occasion. Once a year, in the midst of family and friends, we celebrate ourselves and the lives we live. For many, these are unforgettable moments. Yet, every year, cancer steals these precious days.

Thankfully, companies like COUNTRY Financial have dedicated themselves to eradicating this disease. No contribution is too small. So whether you’re age 25, 50 or forever 21, join together and help everyone enjoy another year of cake, candles and hopeful wishes.

Already at your local Relay For Life event, you’ll find COUNTRY employees and financial representatives walking the track, sharing survivor stories and honoring loved ones. This year, COUNTRY has 68 teams in 11 states. Participants are all united under one goal, which is the RFL theme this year…you guessed it: “Celebrate More Birthdays.”

It’s incredibly empowering to see so many volunteers and have the financial support of corporate sponsors like COUNTRY. However, while corporate support is essential, we can’t beat this disease without help from individual volunteers like you!

Everyone counts in the battle against cancer. Team members are front-line soldiers, neighborhood committee chairs are officers, donors fuel the fight and survivors are wartime heroes. Like I said, everyone is needed. Until we have a cure for all cancers, we’ll continue to fight and rally communities by spreading awareness, advocating the cause and providing a platform for people to celebrate life with their heroes!

So if you’re sitting at your computer or mobile device and want to help, here are some ways to join the fight. The more people help, the more birthdays everyone can share.

  • Visit the newly enhanced www.cancer.org. It has a wealth of resources to answer questions about cancer, wellness and how to volunteer.
  • To join a team, donate or assist locally, check out www.relayforlife.org. Be sure to enter your zip code in the top right corner to discover local volunteer opportunities.
  • Be a part of the online community on Facebook (www.facebook.com/relayforlife) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/relayforlife). You’ll be able to join the conversation with others like yourself.

Cancer affects everyone.  Please be sure to share your experiences in the comments section.  Your story can be a true inspiration to others!

We just finished our event and it was wonderful. Our campsite was an Unbirthday party. Each day is a birthday when you have cancer. We won the Mr. Relay contest and had our Country Financial guy crowned for the third year in a row. We had a goal of $4600 for our 3 person team and with help of lots of people we were able to raise $8291. Country Financial Change for Cure is strong and starting our fund raising for next year.
